MEET KATE
Kate Valliere is a creative explorer who is fascinated by the act of making. The idea for her podcast, What You Make Matters, was born from her time working in marketing for a quilting company, where she witnessed women pour their hearts into their art. How did they choose their patterns? What inspired them to begin quilting? What could she learn about her own projects by observing others?
Most of her projects begin humbly at her dining room table, surrounded by piles of notebooks filled with fragments of ideas, all waiting to be assembled into something meaningful. From dancing as
a child—where she first felt the flow of expression—to her love for quilting, Kate’s curiosity has lead her to seek out how others in her community approach their creative process.
Through What You Make Matters, Kate hopes to inspire listeners to play, create, and embrace their own creative process. In three words, her podcast is empowering, empathetic, and inclusive—a space where conversations are authentic, and the creative process is celebrated as the sacred journey it truly is.
Kate enjoys quilting, co-hosting a movie review podcast, The Center Seat, singing backup for a band in Kansas City, spending time with her handsome partner and kids, or exploring record stores. She’s inspired by audacious pop stars like David Bowie and Prince, the floating worlds of Mark Rothko’s paintings, and the boundless creativity of Mark Z. Danielewski, her dream interviewee.
